IF YOU DON'T LIKE WHAT I HAVE TO SAY, THEN WHY ARE YOU HERE?
Go play in someone else's playground. I don't share my toys here, your comments are spammed and I never see them, and you need to get a hobby.

We had an impromptu shoot yesterday looking for artistic graffiti in downtown Columbus. We stopped by the museum and by the arts college and snapped a few shots. Girlfriend knows how to work the camera!

Oh how I can’t wait for this fad to pass.  I swear, every time I see a photog’s website or a blog and they have their pictures on a slant, I cringe.  Next to “selective coloring” (where everything is black & white except one thing, like a flower, or a hat), this is the most disturbing and distracting trend in personal photography I’ve seen.

Please make it stop.  It doesn’t look good.  I don’t know who told you it looks good.  If you’re a professional, you should know better.  A novice, you’re copying a hopefully very short-lived annoying trend.  It’s not fashion photography.  It’s horrible.  Straighten up the pictures, keep them all in color or all in black and white and make the gazillions of people who want to bang their heads against the wall when they see slanted red-rose black & white pictures happy again.

And that, folks, is my Thursday rant.

We had planned on heading up to Berlin, Ohio, and the surrounding Amish communities over the weekend, but it rained miserably on Saturday – so instead, we headed up on Sunday, in absolutely beautiful weather.  The downfall?  Everything – and I mean EVERYTHING – is closed in Amish country on Sundays!  I managed to get a couple of good images, but for the two hour drive up and the two hour drive back, it was not the amount I had planned.  That being said, we finished the day at a small park with water play, and the three children (and Daddy!) had a great time splashing and getting wet.  The day could be summed up as quite wonderful, even though we didn’t get to shop for Amish handcrafted items or eat at a wonderful restaurant…  We’re planning a trip back up when the season changes this fall – should make for gorgeous pics!

Just wanted to show a few…

Urban Vibes

01/07/09

I was blessed this past weekend with the opportunity to photograph a wonderful African Drum band, “Urban Vibes“, out of Indianapolis, Indiana.  If you’re near there, I strongly suggest you look them up and see them live.  It’s uplifting, it’s poetic, it’s beautiful.  I was able to capture some lovely images of their beautiful faces and instruments, and with their permission I’m reproducing them here for your enjoyment.  I hope you get a chance to hear them, it is always a joy when I get to watch them.

If you’re interested in their contact information, please let me know and I’d be glad to forward your request.

sans mantle.  I don’t know why I don’t have a mantle.  I built the house and didn’t include one.  11 years later I still don’t have one.  I don’t know why.  I guess the benefit is it’s one less thing to dust.  But I digress…

Easter 2009

13/04/09

We had a great time “down on the farm” (hubby’s parent’s home). After the girls got up and found their hidden eggs and baskets, we packed up for the long drive down home. Before we left, we had a quick “impromptu” photo session of the girls in their pretty little dresses:

Once we got down home, the scenery was stunning so there were lots of great photos to be had:

Then the hunt began!!  Ayla passed out from all the walking we did, so she missed the Easter Egg Hunt while she was napping.  We won’t tell her.

The boys spent most of the day at Uncle Bobby’s shooting off rifles – I think they were in HEAVEN!  Then after the sun went down, the “big kids” (pre-teens and teens) participated in our annual Flashlight Easter Egg Hunt.  It’s a riot to watch 15 flashlights wandering up and down the hills looking for hidden eggs with money or lottery tickets inside… I’m amazed no one has broken a leg yet… it gets DARK in the country!

I hope everyone had a great holiday, and God bless you and your family… if you’re still reading, I compiled all of our pics into a SLIDESHOW, if you’d like to see!

I got a neat idea the other day, and realized how simple and inexpensive it actually will turn out to be.  I probably should wait until I’ve actually completed it to blog about it, but I wanted to show off pics so I’m posting prematurely. :D

Anyways, I picked up a couple of packages of teeny magnets (about 1/4″ diameter round) at Michael’s Craft Store the other day.  They came in packages of 6 for about $2.00.  Then I picked up some heavy gauge jewelry wire for about another dollar.  The magnets are much more powerful than they seem, and they stick to the wire like, well, a magnet.

So I did a shoot last night with my four kids, and wanted to get a series of five shots of each of them with different expressions and looks.  Now I’m going to print the pics up as 5″x5″ squares, laminate them, and attach them to the wires with the magnets.  I’ll string the wire taut vertically, one right above the other, with about a 7″ gap.  It should make for a very interesting “work of art” and conversation piece, especially with the fun pics!  So I wanted to share the pics, and as soon as the project is done I’ll be sure to post the final result.  I’m very excited to get started.

I’ve posted my favorites, the ones that show the personality the most, in “large” format.  I put the other in a gallery, if you’re interested in looking! :D
