Our Babies, Ourselves
27/10/08
“How Biology and Culture Shape the Way We Parent” – that’s the byline. This is really a great book, Meredith Small did a phenom job. So I thought I’d note some highlights as I re-read it!
Discussing the evolution of babies, she goes on to discuss birthing practices. She says, and I quote:
In the 1960’s, a slow revolution in birthing practices began in Western culture. …the medical establishment realized the importance of physical proximity on the bonding process and babies were not necessarily removed to the nursery. The feminist movement in the 1970’s, which helped women assert their wishes, furthered that revolution as it gave female nurses and mothers the support to demand that mother and father be integrated back into the early infant experience. In 1976 two obstetricians, Marshall Klaus and John Kennell, based on their research, theorized that there is a critical early – and limited – period for human mother-infant bonding. They noted a higher incidence of infant abuse and failure-to-thrive children among premature infants; because the infants were premature and had been sequestered in nurseries and away from their mothers, there had been, these doctors suggested, a breakdown of the normal mother-infant bond. They found that although 7 to 8 percent of live infants are born premature, 24 to 41 percent of battered were preemies. They surmised that a critical period of attachment has passed by the time the baby was sent home, and that the mother-infant pair consequently lacked the essential positive bond that links them together in a healthy emotional and physical way.
She goes on to explain that the “rooming in” philosophy got strong around 1978, when mothers were encouraged not to ever send babies to the nurseries, and care for the premature infant is possible, at times, bedside with the mother.
I find this fascinating. Someday I hope we have even more solid statistics on the benefits of staying out of the hospital altogether, having home births and birthing center experiences.
Politics are getting boring…

So I think next week I’ll be re-reading my book “Our Babies, Ourselves” by Meredith Small. This is a phenom book, very well written, very easy read. I highly recommend it… so I think I’ll be picking out my favorite excerpts from it for “discussion”.
A much needed break from the stress of Obamabots and the awesome hero McCain…
http://www.americanthinker.com/2008/10/why_obamas_communist_connectio.html
What does it all mean for November 2008? It means that millions of modern Americans, when they hear that Barack Obama has deep roots with communist radicals like Bill Ayers and Frank Marshall Davis, don’t care; they don’t get it.
…Consequently, Americans today do not know why communism is such a devastating ideology, at both the level of plain economic theory and in actual historical practice. It is a remarkably hateful system, based on literal hatred and targeted annihilation of entire classes and groups of people. (Nazism sought genocide based on ethnicity; communism sought genocide based on class.)
Most Americans generally know that the USSR was a bad place and that it was good that the Berlin Wall fell; they lived through that. But they know little beyond that, especially young Americans in college today, born around the time the wall fell — Obama’s biggest supporters. Nowhere in America is Barack Obama worshipped as he is on college campuses, by students and professors alike.
Barack Obama is not your typical liberal: he is the most hard-left Democrat that his party has ever nominated for the presidency. It is absolutely not a coincidence that the man with these far-left associations just so happens to be ranked — quantifiably, objectively, by non-partisan, respected sources like National Journal -- the most far-left member of the U.S. Senate, which is no small thing given the leftward drift of the modern Democratic Party. In other words, Obama’s extremist associations matter; they are fully revealing, illustrative of the political-ideological realities that the pro-Obama media will not expose. His voting record bears this out.
That said, I warn my fellow conservatives: Be prepared to be really, really frustrated when few people seem to care.
The Santayana aphorism is correct: those who do not remember the past are condemned to repeat it. For decades now, we haven’t taught the next generation what it needs to know from its immediate past. And now, to borrow from the Rev. Jeremiah Wright, America’s chickens have come home to roost.
There is now ample, ample evidence that Barack Obama’s campaign is accepting donations from foreigners in violation of federal law.

Wowza. Eye opening, I had no idea.
Some highlights:
…propaganda tool of the left wing of The Annenberg Foundation. Its full title is Annenberg Political Fact Check
In 1989, he (Walter Annenberg) established the Annenberg Foundation, and 1993, created the Annenberg Challenge, a US$500 million, five-year reform effort and the largest single gift ever made to American public education. [Note that the quality of public education in Chicago has only declined since Annenberg, Obama and Ayers "improved" it.]
The hacks at FactCheck.org boast about their funding: “The APPC accepts NO funding from business corporations, labor unions, political parties, lobbying organizations or individuals. It is funded primarily by the Annenberg Foundation.” Is that the Annenberg Foundation that ran and funded Annenberg Chicago Challenge? Why yes, as a matter of fact, it is.
Barack Hussein Obama was on the Board of Directors from 1995-2001, and was the Chairman from 1995-1999
Annenberg, under Obama, gave $50,000,000 to Obama’s comrade, unrepentant Pentagon-bomber Bill Ayers
FactCheck.org goes out of its way to whitewash Ayers’ crimes. In this article you can find the only mention of Annenberg Chicago Challenge on FactCheck.org
FactCheck.org describes “the new Ayers” as “mainstream”
Besides the fact that the “experts” at FactCheck try their best to negate Obama birth certificate forgery stories, and try to whitewash Ayers, it should be quite clear that they consistently critique Republicans much more than Dems, and in harsher language. E.g.: Summary of the Palin-Biden debate. Note that in their catalogue of errors and spin, FactCheck completely ignored Biden’s offensively idiotic assertion that The U.S., “along with France . . . kicked Hezbollah out of Lebanon.”
But don’t expect “Fact” “Check” to check out that particular example of mind-numbing idiocy.
That is the question. No – I don’t mean not to vote at all, I mean to vote on the actual Election Day.
I got my forms in the mail to vote via paper ballot and mail it in.
Something seems really anticlimactic about it all though.
I mean, since I was 18, I have voted in every election. There’s just some, well, feeling, about being involved in the process, being there on that hectic day, waiting in line, and walking into that little private booth. The right that I am given as an American, to make the choice that could change the course of our country.
Sticking an envelope in the mailbox just doesn’t have the same effect.
However, should I choose to go to the polls in November, I will be bringing two little girls, one permanently attached to my hip and the other tugging on my shirt, clinging tightly to my leg. I will have to wait in a line that could last hours (okay, Ohio has some issues here… maybe they’ll have them fixed but I’m not holding my breath)… with a bunch of grumpy people who probably wished they’d mailed in their ballots.
Sigh. That feeling. I don’t think I can miss that indescribable feeling. I think will have to toss this ballot, shredded, into the trash and brave weather, friend, and foe to get to the polls.
I hope every educated voter joins me.
Curiouser and curiouser…

Some highlights:
- Obama won’t release the names of these donors
- A Newsmax canvass of disclosed Obama campaign donors shows worrisome anomalies, including outright violations of federal election laws
- more than 37,000 Obama donations appear to be conversions of foreign currency
- more than 2,000 donors who had contributed in excess of the $4,600 limit for individuals per election cycle
- The first thing it suggests is foreign currency transactions — contributions from foreign donors, which is clearly illegal
- the campaign has never produced any accounting for proceeds from its online store, which virtually shut down several weeks ago after Newsmax and news organizations revealed that Palestinians from the Gaza Strip and other foreigners had made large purchases there
- Their responses to FEC inquiries have often been inadequate and late
- Obama is financing his presidential campaign with anywhere from $13 million to a whopping $63 million from overseas credit cards or foreign currency purchases
This man is NOT suited to run our country. Unless we want it run into the ground.
Title courtesy of Hillary – and how she thought of this guy before he beat her… and she flipped to be a “fan”. This is the man so many Kool-aid drinking Americans think can handle a crisis.
http://embeds.blogs.foxnews.com/2008/10/20/biden-if-elected-the-world-will-test-obama-with-a-crisis/
I hope he doesn’t think he can vote “present” when the time comes. Or maybe he thinks tea and cookies and a good conversation will solve the world’s problems. When he cuts the military budget down to three guns, two kevlars, one uniform, and one tank with no gas, we’ll see how he can handle a crisis.
The comments on this article are encouraging – maybe people are getting smarter and opening their eyes… and will vote for the right candidate this year.
God help us all if they don’t. God help us all.
PERFECT!!

You have to pinch yourself – a Marxisant radical who all his life has been mentored by, sat at the feet of, worshipped with, befriended, endorsed the philosophy of, funded and been in turn funded, politically promoted and supported by a nexus comprising black power anti-white racists, Jew-haters, revolutionary Marxists, unrepentant former terrorists and Chicago mobsters, is on the verge of becoming President of the United States. And apparently it’s considered impolite to say so.

…this barely scratches the surface of Obama’s extremism. He has promised that “the first thing I’d do as President is sign the Freedom of Choice Act” (known as FOCA). This proposed legislation would create a federally guaranteed “fundamental right” to abortion through all nine months of pregnancy, including, as Cardinal Justin Rigali of Philadelphia has noted in a statement condemning the proposed Act, “a right to abort a fully developed child in the final weeks for undefined ‘health’ reasons.” In essence, FOCA would abolish virtually every existing state and federal limitation on abortion, including parental consent and notification laws for minors, state and federal funding restrictions on abortion, and conscience protections for pro-life citizens working in the health-care industry-protections against being forced to participate in the practice of abortion or else lose their jobs. The pro-abortion National Organization for Women has proclaimed with approval that FOCA would “sweep away hundreds of anti-abortion laws [and] policies.”
It gets worse. Obama, unlike even many “pro-choice” legislators, opposed the ban on partial-birth abortions when he served in the Illinois legislature and condemned the Supreme Court decision that upheld legislation banning this heinous practice. He has referred to a baby conceived inadvertently by a young woman as a “punishment” that she should not endure. He has stated that women’s equality requires access to abortion on demand. Appallingly, he wishes to strip federal funding from pro-life crisis pregnancy centers that provide alternatives to abortion for pregnant women in need. There is certainly nothing “pro-choice” about that.
But it gets even worse…. read the whole article here.
In an act of breathtaking injustice which the Obama campaign lied about until critics produced documentary proof of what he had done, as an Illinois state senator Obama opposed legislation to protect children who are born alive, either as a result of an abortionist’s unsuccessful effort to kill them in the womb, or by the deliberate delivery of the baby prior to viability.
He has co-sponsored a bill-strongly opposed by McCain-that would authorize the large-scale industrial production of human embryos for use in biomedical research in which they would be killed.

He’s a sick, sick little man.
